Fighting Video Game Showcase Auction – 44189 Preview

At Heritage Auctions, we’re always ready for a fight. No, we’re not violent people (we’re quite peaceful, in fact), but we love a good fighting video game, whether it’s Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter II, Super Smash Bros., or something more off the beaten path. There’s just something about knocking the stuffing out of an onscreen opponent that is super satisfying!

Fighting Video Game Showcase Auction – 44189 Preview

Video Games — Auction Preview by Brett Weiss

Our upcoming Fighting Game Showcase Auction is filled with awesome titles from this popular genre, including such games as Street Fighter Alpha 2 for the Super Nintendo, SoulCalibur II for the GameCube (where you can play as Link!), and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita.

AUCTION PREVIEW – Bidding opens approximately March 9 for the 2023 April 6 Fighting Video Games Showcase Auction #44189. Sign up for text alerts and preview the lots for sale.

Here are five more games that our bidders will be fighting over this April 6th:

1.      Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters – NES

Auction Lot #27002 – Browse this item.

Fighting games were huge during the 16-bit era of home consoles, but the previous generation of systems was a different story as the genre had yet to take hold. However, the NES did have one gem in this category thanks to this hard-to-find, late-release title, which pits the Heroes in a Half Shell against one another as well as bad guys Casey Jones, Hot Head, and Shredder.

2. Xena: Warrior Princess: The Talisman of Fate – N64

Auction Lot #11001 – Browse this item.

Zeena game

Remember Xena: Warrior Princess? Fun show, right? Did you know there was a fighting game based on the program for the Nintendo 64? Gamers could enter the arena as Xena, Gabrielle, Callisto, Joxer (“I’m Joxer the mighty!”), and other familiar characters, each wielding their patented weaponry. The final boss battle is against Despair, an original character created for the game. After defeating Despair, gamers are treated to a unique ending based on their character and the difficulty level selected.

2. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 – Genesis

Preview Lot #36001

(Image coming soon.)

This upgrade of Mortal Kombat 3 features 23 immediately playable fighters (including Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Sonya) and bosses, plus several hidden characters. The game is based on Midway’s 1995 arcade classic and includes the new combos, fatalities, babalities, and brutalities from the coin-op. The copy we’re offering is off-the-charts awesome in terms of grade and presentation. It is an absolute knockout at CGC 9.8 A++!

4. Tekken 4

tekken 4 game

I’m a big fan of fighting games, and Tekken 4 is one of my favorites. I played the heck out of this PlayStation 2 title when it came out back in 2002 (hard to believe it’s been more than 20 years!), and Christie Monteiro, who uses a Brazilian fighting style called capoeira, was my fighter of choice. Not only was she drop-dead gorgeous, but she could also kick some series tail! Christie, who will kick you in the face if you’re not careful, made her first appearance in this game.

5. The King of Fighters ‘99

Browse Lot #18003

king of fighters game

Originally released for the Neo Geo, The King of Fighters ’99 for the PlayStation features the same play modes as SNK’s home cartridge version, but it adds a few bells and whistles, including a concept art gallery and a character color edit mode. It was the sixth game in the King of Fighters series, introducing the Striker Match play style wherein all teams are required to have three fighting members and one Striker character who can be called into battle a limited number of times.
