Coming up in our Beatles-focused auction on September 24 is an incredible portion removed from The Ed Sullivan Show set signed and doodled by the Fab Four. It was originally given to a fan when the show wrapped for the season, and it’s passed through a few hands before landing with us.
It’s already safely held in a shadow box, and it would be the centerpiece of any collection.
This is an important piece of history, not just pop culture. The following day, kids were talking about this group from Liverpool playing an emerging sound to a theater full of screaming fans. And the songs were quite tuneful.
Up there with when JFK was assassinated and when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, this is a critical, memorable time, marking a change in American history. Thousands of people wanted to form a band or at least learn an instrument after this performance. Frank Sinatra or Perry Como didn’t do that, but the Beatles did.
Happy bidding this Saturday!
