Thelma and Louise (MGM, 1991) Brad Pitt “J.D.” Cowboy Hat

Brad Pitt's cowboy hat from Thelma and Louise

This Stetson 4” brim cowboy hat with a braided band and production sewn rattlesnake rattle was worn by Brad Pitt in Thelma and Louise, as “J.D”, the convicted robber that seduces “Thelma” Geena Davis and steals her life savings.  This was Brad Pitt’s fifth movie and first big hit solidifying his flourishing career in Hollywood and establishing him as a heart throb. What most people don’t know is that Brad Pitt beat Grant Show, Mark Ruffalo, and George Clooney for the role. By far one of the coolest lots and my personal favorite in this auction!

Tales from the Prop House – Every month, our Entertainment catalogers report some of the amazing things they’ve seen in our warehouse. This month, Paul Bisnette writes about a complete stormtrooper costume from The Mandalorian, Julio Leyva writes about Brad Pitt’s cowboy hat from Thelma and Louise, Bradley Harding talks about Barbara Streisand’s iconic hat from What’s Up Doc? Macy Shackleford writes about Julia Roberts’ Tinkerbell costume from Hook, and Colin Tait writes about Dennis Hopper’s bomb from Speed.
