Nuggets and Frank’s Place

nuggets album

To echo what Garry Shrum wrote about with the Back to Frank’s Place Collection, I have to say, it’s a joy to catalog these rare vinyl LPs and they remind me of how great Rhino’s Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965–1968 and Nuggets II: Original Artyfacts from the British Empire and Beyond, 1964–1969 box sets are. Both CD box sets are out of print, but easily found used on various resellers. I’ve held onto my copies because compact discs still sound great, and not every record made is readily available on Spotify.

Originally compiled by Lenny Kaye of the Patti Smith Group, the Nuggets collections were a way to cull fantastic tracks from bands that quickly formed, released a single, album (or two) and that was it. Thousands of people around the world were inspired by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan, and they got together and made some excellent audio ruckus. But the tracks were too good to leave in the annals of time.

A number of artists featured on those Nuggets compilations are on available on vinyl in the Back to Frank’s Place Collection, including the Pretty Things, the Small Faces, Them, the Koobas, and Tomorrow. Surely there are collectors who wish to part with Los Bravos, the Barbarians, the Easybeats, and Love, right? Check out these items out and more in our 7293 auction, which goes live on July 9-10.
