“This is the weapon of a Jedi Knight. Not as clumsy or random as a blaster, an elegant weapon for a more civilized age.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi

After nearly twenty years and to the delight of Star Wars fans worldwide, Ewan McGregor has returned to his portrayal of Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi for a Disney+ limited event series that is currently hurtling towards its dramatic conclusion and blowing away streaming viewership records. To mark this occasion Heritage Auctions is thrilled to present a collection of some of the most significant Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber props ever to come to market spanning all three films from George Lucas’s Star Wars prequel trilogy.

AUCTION PREVIEW: These four lightsaber props are part of our July 22 -23 Hollywood & Entertainment Signature Auction with bidding opening on July 5th.

Lightsaber Props from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Two of Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber props are on offer from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace including his rehearsal lightsaber as well as the only known example of a hero, bladed Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber prop from the first prequel film sourced directly from the prequel trilogy’s stunt coordinator, Nick Gillard. The significance of this bladed hero example cannot be overstated as it is believed that only one was constructed for production – not even the Lucasfilm Archive has an example.

Lightsaber Props from Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones

From Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones comes Ewan McGregor’s bladed dueling lightsaber prop also sourced directly from stunt coordinator, Nick Gillard. This is the only known true dueling lightsaber prop used by McGregor in Attack of the Clones in private hands and was built and used exclusively for his climactic battle with the nefarious, Count Dooku, played by both Sir Christopher Lee and his stunt double Kyle Rowling.

Lightsaber Props from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith

Finally, from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith comes an incredibly rare opportunity to acquire one of only a handful of known examples of a hero, metal Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber hilt from any Star Wars production. This particular Obi-Wan Kenobi prop is similar in design to the prop used in the first two prequel films with a few subtle modifications and was originally meant to have seen screen time throughout the first half of the final installment. This specific prop went to set and was photographed being worn by McGregor, but ultimately the scenes were cut after the late decision was made for Kenobi to simply start the film with a new lightsaber design similar to the one his character carried in the 1977 original, Star Wars.

The lightsaber has become the most notable symbol of the Star Wars franchise, representing the eternal struggle between good and evil. Most certainly, the significance of these extraordinary props, associated with such a legendary character, will withstand the test of time and be coveted by collectors for many decades to come.  Collect all four!
