Howlin’ Wolf and Band Silver Gelatin Large 20 X 16 Photo.
When I first saw the collection of silver gelatin photos from all the blues pioneers from Chicago in the early 60s, I was blown away. Our consignor brought them into our Chicago office, and to see such clarity and the great vibe you got from such amazing candid shots makes me appreciate the music even more. Do miss this fantastic collection online. From Howlin’ Wolf to Muddy Waters to James Brown and even some very early Bob Dylan mixed in. Just amazing!!
Maybe the rarest US picture, the Rolling Stones’ “Street Fighting Man” sleeve, was pulled off the market right when it was released. Due to the graphic image of three cops beating a young white male, the label had them destroyed, and a stock London sleeve was used. Only a few got out to reviewers at magazines, DJs, and only a few shops. I saw and found the first copy at a record fair in about 1977. I purchased it from a DJ set up selling extra records he had from the radio station. I paid $3 and gave it to a friend at the show. Later he came to me and said he had an offer of $150, and I told him to take it. Since then, I have seen only a few copies come up for sale, with one that Heritage auctioned at $81,000.00 about a year ago.
