Jewelry is one of those collectibles categories in which just about everyone can find something of value. On the surface, the appeal is obvious, with the clear financial value associated with assorted gemstones. But it goes beyond the size and sparkle of different baubles. Jewelry is, almost by definition, flashy and attractive, and is inarguably eye-catching.
As is the case with any collectible category, different people have different tastes, many of which can be satisfied in Heritage Auctions’ Holiday Fine Jewelry Auction Dec. 4 in New York. Some of the eye-catching offerings include:
1. A Diamond, Platinum, White Gold Tiara (est. $12,000-15,000) features full, marquise and pear-shaped diamonds weighing a total of 19.44 carats and set in platinum and 18K white gold. Standing 2-1/2 inches high in the front and measuring 10-1/2 inches, the tiara includes more than 100 diamonds, with G-H-I average color and SI average clarity.
2. A Melo Pearl, Diamond, Gold Ring (est. $10,000-15,000) features melo pearls measuring 14.13 by 13.78 millimeters and 12.00 by 7.75 millimeters, respectively. The pearls are clasped in reptilian feet on which the claws feature full-cut diamonds with a combined weight of approximately 0.15 carats. The feet connect in a wraparound style band of 18K gold that includes a pattern designed to resemble a reptile’s scales.
3. A pair of Pink Tourmaline, Diamond, Gold Earrings by Angela Cummings (est. $10,000-15,000) include oval-shaped pink tourmaline accented by full-cut diamonds, weighing a total of approximately 3.80 carats and set in 18K gold. The earrings, marked “©1997 Cummings 750” have a gross weight of 32.30 grams and are designed for ears that are not pierced.
4. A Diamond, Enamel, Platinum Brooch from Oscar Heyman Bros. (est. $10,000-15,000) boasts full-cut diamonds weighing a total of approximately 6.20 carats, enhanced by green enamel applied to platinum. The brooch, attributed to Oscar Heyman Bros., has a gross weight of 22.00 grams.
5. A Diamond, Gold Juste un Clou Bracelet by Cartier (est. $6,000-8,000) features a subtle hinge, as well as full-cut diamonds weighing a total of approximately 0.5 carats set in 18K gold. Marked “Cartier 750,” the bracelet has a gross weight of 32.60 grams.
